Nina and I have been to the Portage Opportunity Group today and we've had an absolute whale of a time! Aileen picked us up as it was our first visit.. originally more for my benefit than for Ninas but after our visit from the Educational Phycologist yesterday it was great that Aileen could witness Nina in a group environment and would be able to report back...wow, this is some profile of Nina they are building up now, huh! We were one of the first to arrive and it didn't take any convincing from me or Aileen for Nina to go try EVERYTHING! Once the place started to fill up Nina wasn't phased and joined in with the giant ball game with human skittles and the slide was an obvious hit with her too.. there was a shop set up and a house to play in; there was a farm yard and noahs ark too and a quiet tactile area where there was shiny strands, tinsel, squidgy balls and foam blocks; there were hammering blocks and push button toys, pop ups and bricks.. it was like any playgroup you'd go to - but better :) ...far more relaxed, nobody was under any impression that our children were model citizens and that was just fine! Aileen showed why she does the job she does and brought out the sequence cards, that have been a Godsend at home, and used them to show to Nina that it was tidy up time and then we were going to sing and Nina was quite happy with that (and yet managed to avoid having to actually tidy anything up ;) thas ma girl *LOL) The singing was great; Nina didn't know any of the songs sang bar Twinkle Twinkle but boy did she belt that one out *L .. she did all the actions once she'd learnt them from the girl next to us and after that we had to say our goodbyes (lots of times) and Aileen brought us back home. i was hoping i might get an hour with Nina having a 'lil'kip' as she seemed ready to drop but no such luck.. at present she is dancing round the room to Boogie Beebies... again!
